Angelic is a stand-alone Otherworld novella. It is narrated by Eve Levine.
Synopsis[]
As a half-demon master of the dark arts, Eve Levine isn’t what anyone would call angelic. That’s exactly why the Fates chose her for the job. She’s their secret weapon against the forces of evil.
However after five years, Eve is tired of being the designated rebel of the angel corps, expected to break the rules, then penalized for it. When the leaderless djinn stage an uprising, Eve sees the perfect chance to get herself fired. As she plunges deeper into the demon world, though, she realizes she’s in danger of losing a lot more than her job.
Plot[]
Eve is working overtime on her angel duties, and frustrated enough that she's dreaming of ways to quit.
She prepares to hang up her sword for the next six months, but the Fates assign her one more job: a djinn uprising. Eve and Kristof visit Dantalian, lord demon of the djinn, and he directs them to one of his loyal followers, Armaros. Instead of helping her, Armaros drops Eve into a hallucination that revisits both her mistakes with Kristof and the people she killed in her life. Kristof rescues her.
Eve calls upon Jaime for help, specifically to ask Jeremy to summon some djinn for her. They interrogate the djinn and realize Dantalian set Eve up by sending her to Armaros: He wants to be called upon to handle the djinn problem and get early parole from his prison.
She calls on Marius to take the djinn to the Fates, but when she meets up with him the djinn have escaped and Marius attacked. Marius suspects Katsuo betrayed them. He takes Eve to a cliffside and tries to send her into a cave to find Katsuo's hiding place, but she realizes Marius is the betrayer. Eve subdues Marius and Katsuo helps her take him into custody.
After clearing things up with the Fates, Eve gives them a veiled warning: stop getting in her way by pretending she is expected to follow all the rules. They all know Eve was chosen to ascend because she has a healthy disrespect for rules, and their attitude is getting in the way of her doing her job.
