Forbidden is a novella that was first published as a limited edition hardcover through Subterranean Press. It was republished in Otherworld Secrets.
Synopsis[]
The team-spirit sign by the side of the highway seems a good omen to loner Morgan Walsh, as he drives to what could be the most important visit of his life - a chance to join the North American Pack. Then he wakes naked in the woods, surrounded by wolf tracks and a ring of suspicious cops. The situation only gets worse when he's bailed out by Alpha-elect Elena Michaels and Clayton Danvers, her terrifying enforcer and mate.
Disappointed that such a promising young werewolf risked exposing them, Elena isn't expecting anything from the pesky retrieval job except some much-needed alone time with Clay. Instead, she finds a different kind of evil stalking the streets and forests of Westwood, New York. Trapped in town by a snowstorm and sabotage, Elena, Clay and Morgan must find the mysterious threat before it sets its sights on them.
Plot[]
Morgan stops in Westwood on his way to see the Pack. He is drugged and blacks out, then wakes naked in the woods. He is taken into police custody and the officers contact Elena, whose information was in his belongings.
Elena and Clay come to pick him up and learn that young men have been going missing around the town for the past several years. Someone slashes the tires on both their and Morgan's vehicle, so they are stuck in town for the night.
They scout the woods around Westwood and find an long-decomposing corpse. They also find a cave with a ritual circle and various small bones, many of them human fingers and the like. Later, when they are called into the police station, the police chief discreetly sends them after loners and crackpots in the surrounding forest. In one man's house, they find pelts and trophies of various predator animals, wolves included.
They learn the police chief is a witch and knows who they are.
Eventually they figure out that the high school football coach has been capturing passers-through, then putting members of his team through a drug-enhanced "vision quest" in which they hunt down and kill the captive vagrants. The players supposedly remember nothing. The football coach and his assistant are taken into custody.
