Truth and Consequences (1996) is a short story about Elena Michaels, told from the perspective of Jose Carter, written by Kelley Armstrong before Bitten was published.
It was first in the February 1996 edition of Lost Worlds, a sci-fi and fantasy magazine out of North Carolina. It is now available online at Kelley's website.
Plot[]
The story features Elena investigating a con-man named Carter. Carter was now offering the whereabouts of a place he calls "County X", which he says contains a pack of werewolves. This time, it seems, Carter may have actually stumbled upon some truth. After confronting his on his past schemes, Elena chases Carter into the forest, changes to wolf form, and promptly tears of his throat.

- This incident is mentioned in Bitten, and was supposedly the reason that Elena took off to Toronto (and stayed there longer than usual), as her hastiness to kill Carter without thinking scared Elena deeply into believe she was losing her humanity.
