Vanishing Act is a short story that is only available in the collection Otherworld Nights. It is narrated by Savannah Levine.
Plot[]
Savannah and Adam follow a tip to a demon summoning, only to find that the demon has already arrived and decimated his summoner. After they escape the demon, Savannah accidentally tells the tipster that the summoner is dead, and he reacts badly.
They locate the tipster, Keefer, who is being hunted by at least one cabal. They learn that his brother summoned the demon to gain knowledge about Keefer's teleportation powers. Savannah gives Keefer a crash course in half-demons and Cabal politics.
Meanwhile Adam finds two college acceptance letters on Savannah's desk, both for schools across the country, and he withdraws into himself in anger.
Keefer tries to run, but Savannah catches up with him before the cabals can. She calls in her brother Sean Nast to offer safe haven to Keefer.
Adam and Savannah eventually manage to talk out some of Adam's relationship insecurities, and they decide to get a permanent residence together instead of keeping separate apartments. They are both in it for the long haul, and they won't let hang-ups over their age difference get in the way.
